Hyundai Xcent: A Quick Review

In order to meet the growing demand for compact sedans in the Indian market, Hyundai has launched Xcent that is a sub-four-meter entry sedan. It is based on the platform of Grand i10 and is affordably priced. The car is available in both petrol and diesel version with an automatic transmission option on the petrol car. It comes with urban styling, feature-rich interiors and offers superb mileage along with a decent performance.

Elegant Design

Hyundai Xcent is built on the same platform as Grand i10. This sub 4-meter sedan is proportionate in appearance and looks stylish. The front facade is similar to its hatch sibling but the black coloured mouldings on the side and the aerodynamic lines make the car look more dynamic from the sides. The rear has a stubby feel to it. The 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels on the top-end variant lend it an upmarket look.


Feature rich interiors

In order to tempt the buyers, Hyundai offers a lot of interesting features on Xcent. It includes many segment first features like rear AC vents, a cooled glove box and 1GB hard drive. Other features on the car include push-button start, dual front airbags, all-electric rear view mirrors with turn indicators, ABS and fog lamps. The cabin is roomy and looks inviting with fuel tone beige/black colours and an integrated music system.

Reliable engine

Hyundai uses the familiar 1.2-litre Kappa2 petrol engine to power Xcent. This engine generates 81bhp of power and 115Nm of torque. It also comes with the option of 1.2-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine that churns out 71bhp of power and 160Nm of torque. The petrol engine comes in both automatic and manual transmission options while the diesel engine comes only in 5-speed manual transmission option. The company claims a mileage of 19.1kmpl for the petrol model and 24.5kmpl for the diesel model.

Easy to handle

The acceleration of Xcent is good and it also offers a smooth handling experience. The suspension quality offered by the car is good and it is well adept at soaking up the irregularities of the roads. The steering feels well-weighted and the car offers easy in-city manoeuvrability.

Safety features

Hyundai Xcent is a highly advanced car from the safety perspective. The use of anti-corrosive steel in its build makes it strong, rigid and safe. The high-end variants of the car come equipped with features like reverse parking sensors, Anti-Lock braking system, day/night mirrors etc. for complete safety of the passengers.

Pricing and Competition

The base price of Xcent starts at Rs. 4.97lakh and goes up to Rs. 7.8lakh. At this price, it offers stiff competition to players like Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire etc.
