Has anyone transplanted the suspension or entire chassis from a C5 Corvette under a 57 Bel Air?

If so, do you have any tips or instructions on how to pull this off?

Any assistance will be appreciated.

your Belair weighs way to much to accomadate the later c-5 suspension, it will probably never be strong enough even if you do get it in, and will fail. My sugestion is to keep traditional mid 70s an 80s vintage hotrod stuff and keep it a staight line car.. The c-5 running gear an suspension was designed by GM for a much lighter car Corvette Suspension Under 57 Bel Air   (1/11/2004)
C-5 suspension or vintage hot rod stuff is not what I would recommend for a '55-'57 Chevy. The C-4 suspension conversion that I use is fantastic. It fits and works quite nicely for any '55-57 Chevy. The weight balance is superb, the ride is smooth, The braking is incredible, the handling is agile and what you end up with is a BMW like high performance sports sedan. The C-4 suspension was designed for a car of 3400-3600 lbs. Any tri-five Chevy with this conversion will come in at 3200-3450 lbs, even the wagons. Anybody who would like a ride or more info, give me an e-mail or a call anytime.

i was just wonderin what corvette front suspension would work best on my truck, its a 76 datsun 620 that weighs in at 2600 lbs? email me back at redtruck@shaw.ca thanks!!!, rob Corvette Suspension Under 57 Bel Air   (6/17/2004)
Hate to sound like an antagonist but are you really sure. Most 55 - 57 full size chevrolets weigh less than the late model corvettes or close to the same weight. This is a very impressive swap and does give better handling, braking etc.

I am currently making this c-4 conversion to a 63 chev pick-up. That does weigh more so I have to design with this in mind. The conversion is pricey but in my opinion there is nothing better for street. It is far better than the typical mustang II
conversions.

I am looking to build a 32 Model A roadster from a kit and need advice on registering in California.

Is the car registered as 32 Ford or what?

What about emissions compliance? I am going to use a Chevy 350. Does it have to meet today's smog rules?

Thanks ahead of time. Registering a home built streetrod   (9/18/2002)
Well, Im in washington so our air laws are a little less strict. Im drving a 57 F100 and it doesnt have to meet many laws (no emissions control whatsoever, dont need seatbelts...) but cali may be diff. As far as registering, you may need state patrol to check it out. I put a new front end under my truck for a smoother ride and they had to check it out, mainly cause my frame didnt have any numbers. Other than that, you should just be able to regetster it like normal, though youll have no vin.

(I responded with a counter offer)

Thanks for your mail and the pix. I have discussed with my customer as regards the payment and he has instructed me to inform you that payment will get to you in a cashier check of $9,500.00 which is a refund payment of a cancelled order earlier made by my client.

 ANOTHER EXAMPLE   (5/7/2004)
I am
interested in finding a shop that can change a regular cab pickup into an
extended cab. I would like to take an older model Ford regular cab F100
or F150, which are widely available, and have it modified either by some
creative metal work or the installation of a half shell and boot where
some type of seats could be installed. Is this doable? ANy ideas on
price?

Thank you,

AW Regular cab extended 4 older model p/u   (10/6/2002)
I'm confused when you said f150 ford has been building extra and double cabs back to at least 1959 if your looking for one older than that look at custom shops in your area. a shop here in portland built a nice double cab 56 ford but I see them popping up everywhere and you would be ahead to find a shop in you area or buy one already built. place a truck wanted ad here Regular cab extended 4 older model p/u   (12/15/2002)

I'm 50.Have continously owned a 1957 chevy since I was 13.All G.M.cars share basically the same parts. For instance the front brake shoes on my 57 are the same as the front brake shoes on my 65 G.M.C.truck.55,56,57 car are the same mechanically as many other years.55,56,57 body shell are the same except for dash and trim.Front cap rear fenders are stylling changes.Frames are slightly different.55,56 had 15 wheels,57 had 14 inch wheels.I could go on forever.Make friends with a junkyard, try different parts. Parts Interchange Guide   (1/18/2004)
Hi, I'm new to cars, and I am looking for some help, if anyone has watched the film training day with denzel washington and ethan hawke, i would be grateful if they could tell me the kind of car denzel has and e-mail it to me on css1@st-andrews.ac.uk Training Day   (10/8/2002)
I have not seen this movie but, my reseach says the car is a '67 Monte Carlo. Training Day   (10/8/2002)
Uhhhh...I don't think it is a 67 Monte Carlo since they didn't start making them till 1970 Training Day   (10/11/2002)
      Its a 80's or 81 i am positive. Training Day   (12/10/2002)
its a 78 im sure Training Day   (7/25/2003)
The 80 monte carlo have two square head lights in the front
 Training Day   (4/22/2004)
it is a 78 Monte Carlo cause i have one Training Day   (4/22/2003)
        it is not a 78 it is a 79.
 Training Day   (9/29/2003)
The Monte Carlo in Training Day is a 1979 not a 1978, this can be proved by looking at the taillights, the 1979 and 1980 have the exact same taillights, whereas the 1978 is different, also the front conering lamps are different (slightly) the 1979 has a chrome pattern over the yellow lense while the 1978 has an engraving of the Monte Carlo sheild on the yellow part of the cornering lamp and the 1980 has Quad headlamps.

Trust me on this info, i has a fully restored 1979 Monte Carlo, and since this body style only existed for 3 years ('78'79'80) i have to learn the differences between all three models, and i have owned the 1979 since new, so i know what really came on that car.

The only way the car in training day is a 1978 monte carlo, is if the people who restored the car for the movie replaced the signature '78 front and rear lights for the '79 front and rear lights (beacuse that is the only visual difference between the cars.

-my 2 cents Training Day, its a 1979   (12/2/2003)
The vinyl top shows if it is a 1979 or a 1980. The 1980 year had a painted top like the one in the movie. I believe that 78 and 79 had vinyl tops. Also in Training Day you can tell that it was not painted black over the vinyl like some people say, it was a gloss paint.

                    BaZo0Ka To0tH Training Day, its a 1980   (3/20/2004)
You can see that it's a 79 monte carlo because it has single headlights. the 1980 had double. And the car in traning day did not have a vinyl top!   Training Day, its a 1979   (3/24/2004)
It is a 1979, MARKER lights give this away. Headlights are the same for a 78-79, 80 had dual head lights but the same body style.

As for the Vinal top info in this forum...you could get the Landua OPTION on all 3 years.

where would i go to build the same car or find all the toys they had on the car so I can build one  Training Day   (7/11/2003)
it is either a 78 or 79. Not a SS, they didn't make SS's for third generation Montes. Also that body style didn't come with a 454. It had either a 231,267 or 305. Those are the only engines that came with the car. I own a 79 with t-tops Training Day   (7/17/2003)
All of u peeps are really dumb becasue the car is a 79 Monte on 15x7 wires with 2-pump set up. This is for all yall rookies to the game. Training Day   (8/15/2003)

i would realy be happy if u can send me some photos of the 1978 Monte Carlo Training Day   (6/18/2003)
I have a 78 Monte Carlo Landau, a 79 Monte Carlo SC, and an 80 Monte Carlo SC. The car in Training Day is a !!!!79!!!!!.

Discriminators for identifying the sides of a 3rd Generation Monte Carlo.

In addition to the lower chrome mouldings the chrome under the door windows and quarter windows took on a change as well. The 78's and early 79's had a narrow chrome moulding that followed the top edge of the door (under the window) and under the quarter glass. This thin moulding met up with a wider moulding that came down the back side of the quarter window on the C-pillar.
The later 79's and 80's had a matching wide chrome across the top of the door and under the quarter window that matched and mated to the wide moulding coming down the C-pillar on the back side of the quarter windows. Training Day   (6/19/2003)
first off if your going to talk about montes like you know them then you would know that it was a 1979 the first year the tail lights wrapped around the quarter panel 78's did not Training Day   (9/21/2003)
you need to watch the movie again because in the movie the monte carlo did not have wrap around tail lights they are straight across the lower back .And the monte is a 78.So take notes and do your homework!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 Training Day   (10/2/2003)
Correction the car in the movie is a 78 not a 67 Monte Carlo. I do not believe that the Monte Carlo was made in 67.. Floyd W. Mayes.... Training Day   (4/11/2003)
trust me it is not no 67 it is a 1978 Monte Carlo coupe sport thay made that body for two year 78,79 I own a 79 that lookes just like the one in Training Day datons and all Training Day   (4/17/2003)
    your research is sadly mistaken.
i own a 78 monte carlo. the ss wasnt availible in this year and the car in training day was a 79 monte carlo LS. with a 305ci 350t tranny and a 4 switch 2 pump showtime hydraulic system. that is why the car was only able to go up and down and not hop or 3 wheel Training Day   (4/26/2003)
The message from the guy on 4/26/03 is absolutely right. Finally someone with some damn sense put a message on here. IT is definately a 1979 Monte Carlo, with a 350. IT has a 2 pump Hydro set-up, not air ride kit because even with an extrememly fast air system, it will not pump up that fast. 3 years of that body style starts at 1978 and ends at 1980. I had an 80 which I just sold, and I am currently trying to get a 79.  Training Day   (4/30/2003)

YES IT IS A 79 Training Day   (5/11/2003)
This is a 79 or newer. Monte carlo was not shortened until 1978 . before that it had the long boat version. the late 60's model was shorter but could not be mistaken for the car in this movie. Training Day   (5/29/2003)

the car is a 1979 monte carlo. i own a 78 and a custom choped 79.the body style is a 3rd gen monte. you can tell it is a 79 because the tail lighs are different than a 78, because they have the side marker as part of the whole tail light lens, and a 80 had dual head lights(like 81-87), which this one did not. it was a rare sun roof (only about 600-800). Training Day   (8/12/2003)

the 79 monte carlo in the movie did not have hydraulics, it had air bags, if it would of had hydraulics when he hit the switches it would of jumped up not elevate up and besides it would of atlest had 8 s witches, so it has a air ride because they come with 2-6 switches. Training Day   (4/17/2003)

you can not put a 454 with a 350 trans the motor will blow the trans Training Day   (4/12/2003)
no it will not blow the trans if it is built right the trans in my 84 chevy k5 blazer has 454 with 350 trans got built by one of the best trany shops arenas in amarillo ,texas put a corvette serveo with shift kit !bad ass trany it took a 1998 camaro! tranys have a lot more to do with performance than some people think!  Training Day   (8/24/2004)
you just not right SS was not an option in 78 or 79 and I owen a 79 and not only was a 454 not used in a monte carlo after 77 but you cant eaven fit a big block in the car and the rims are 14 Training Day   (5/2/2003)
The car was a 1979 monte carlo because i have an 78,79,and 80.The 78 have 5 tail lights with a side signal light in the back. The 79 have 4 tail lights and 1 square headlight on each side. The 80 have 4 tail light and 2 square headlight on each side.those was 14in wire knock offs not dayton because 17in dont make white walls. Training Day   (5/21/2003)
I'm interested in where you got the information about the car
 Training Day   (5/29/2003)
If you would look closely you will see that this is not a 1978 monte carlo. The tail lights are wrap around which indicates a 1979 or 1980. The 1978 monte has a tail light which has two separate pieces not one wrap around. And there was not an ss version of this car made in 1978.  Training Day   (5/29/2003)
The monte is a 79 or newer definately not a 78 as the 78 had separate tail light feature . The 79 had a wrap around style which the car in the movie has. Training Day   (5/29/2003)
To me and a few others that i have talked to, it looks like there are two different types of monte carlo's being used, watch closely, one looks like a fastback, the other isn't Training Day   (6/8/2003)

I am having a 79 restored (just like the training day car... it is a 79)anyone know a good website to find parts for this model? Training Day   (7/30/2003)
Where did you find out it had a 454? They didn't put 454s in Monte Carlos in 1979. Unless its a total custom job it most likely has a 307. Training Day   (4/13/2004)
      it's a 1979 monte.end of conversation Training Day   (10/23/2004)
It's a 78 Monte and I have te exact one right now. When every one saw the movie they all wanted to buy it :-0 Training Day   (4/1/2003)

What kind of Daytons and what size were they Rims   (6/29/2004)
The car is a '79 with some modifications. They should have used a Buick Grand National. Now THAT'S A SEXY CAR!!!!!! Training Day   (7/5/2004)
No, No, No. The Monte from traing day is a 79, there is only 3 years of that body style, the 1st year of the newer style was in 1981. The 1980 looks exactly like the 79 except the 80 has 2 headlights and the 79 has 1 on each side. Training Day   (4/30/2003)
78-79 are the same in 80 it had 4 head lights 78-79 only had 2 they changed the body in 81 and it ran from 81-87 then the front wheel drive montes came out with no V8 Training Day   (5/2/2003)
do ckek this its a 78 monte carlo the engen is a 5.0 305 8 cy. i have the same car and im almost finished with it i got rims, a sound system, jet black paint, baby flow masters and im geting the switches. but im trying to sell it for 4500 without switches. Training Day   (6/11/2003)

I have a '80 that I'm putting together. only minor body work, paint sanded down to bare metal, then primered. two stage black(jammed black also) re-uph seats, carpet, headliner, center console compartment cover, dash overly(to hide small cracks)all moldings intact. Orig 305. seats are bucket. Center console shift.

Needs shoes, sounds, momo fighter steering wheel. I have before pics and in-process pics. Any offers?   Training Day   (5/3/2004)
it is a 1978 monte carlo and the music is dr.dre (dre day) Training Day   (5/10/2004)
The car is probably a 78 monte carlo, im positive, i have the same year monte carlo sitting in my driveway right now. Training Day   (1/1/2003)
I have done exstensive research on this car and i bought one identicle to it. I have followed the paper trail back to the movie company. It is a 78' montey carlo ss, with an aftermarket sunroof,The wheels are 15x7 inch datons, with 195 85 r 15
ww tires. it has a two pump cce hydraulic setup, grey interior, landau top, excedera. and definately not a 454. it's a high output 307, thats what came with the ss's in 78 Training Day   (1/10/2003)
It's a 1979 Monte Carlo because all the other earlier models had different mirrors. Plus the earlier models also had round headlights, the one in training day didn't. And it definetly isn't an 80's Monte Carlo because those one had 2 headlight on each side. It probably has a 350 or a 454 cubic inch V8 engine.  Training Day   (1/30/2003)
It is a 1979 monte carlo my dad has one and it sure isn't a 78 because the back lights are different and its not a 80's model because the front does not have two squared lights, any way those monte carlos can only fit 3 types of engines which are 287,305 (which my dad has, and 350. Anybody who says it has a 454 are idiots because the suspension could not hold a engine that strong.454's were mostly made for 1970-1977 monte carlo's, chevelles and chargers. Training Day   (3/8/2003)
roger htat man i just bought one and im turning it into a training day. mine is a 79 single hed light.

anybody know where to find that chrome bumber molding inserts?

Peace Training Day   (4/13/2003)
Sorry, but my 454 fits nicely in my '80' Monte Carlo. You can even use the same motor mounts from a small block.I also own a '79' Monte Carlo and it is the same year used in Training Day! Training Day   (5/14/2003)
The car you are looking for is a 79 monte carlo. I have a 78 pimped out like the one in training day, but it is different. The 79's have different tail lights than the 78. The 79's are split horizontally down the middle wheras a 78's aren't Training Day   (5/19/2003)
The 78 and 79 are extremely similiar and most people can't even tell the difference. You sound exactly like me, i saw training day and i got the same idea as you, but i ended up with a 78 instead. My 78 has brand new dark green paint with a little metal flake. right now it is cruisin on 13 inch chromies but it will have some 17's soon with air bags. Air bags are a lot less problematic than hydraulics, but hydraulics are off the hook. Good look finding a monte. Peace Training Day   (5/19/2003)
If i was you man, i would be original and do different stuff to your car. There are quite a few people that i have seen copying training day. YOu got to be original player. If you work on your car and put your own insight into it, you will be alot more proud of the outcome. Training Day   (5/19/2003)
YOU REALLY KNOW YOUR CARS....I KNEW IT WAS A 79 BECAUSE I'VE SEEN ENOUGH TO KNOW. I ACTUALLY WANT TO BUY ONE JUST LIKE IT. PUT DAYTONS AND HYDROLICS ON THEM ALSO. Training Day   (8/17/2003)
YOU REALLY KNOW YOUR CARS....I KNEW IT WAS A 79 BECAUSE I'VE SEEN ENOUGH TO KNOW. I ACTUALLY WANT TO BUY ONE JUST LIKE IT. PUT DAYTONS AND HYDROLICS ON THEM ALSO. Training Day   (8/17/2003)
you are a just as dumb as them because I have a 454 in my 78 monte and for the chargers it is a 440 not 454  Training Day   (9/10/2003)
Okay lets clear this up right now, Chargers are a car produced by Dodge between 1966 and 1975. The car came with either a 318, 383, 440 or 426 Hemi, there was never a CHEVY 454 in these cars and anyone who does so should be killed with a tire iron. Training Day   (4/13/2004)
people!!.........why dont you just let the training day thing go

let get something strait

its not a 78 or a 80................its a 79 monte,,with a few custom modifications like:

pontiac separate seats.......custom tilt stearing wheel with air bag on it

its a sinlge exaust powered by a 350 power plant
14 inch chrome daytons....custom sun roof.........and thats pretty much it..

 Training Day   (4/26/2004)
LET ME TELL YOU THIS.GO OUT AND BY A BOOK CALLED MECHANICS 101 .BECAUSE YOU NEED SOME HELP IF YOU THINK ONLY 3 KINDS OF ENGINES WILL FIT.HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF REINFORCED SUSPENSION.I GOT A MONTE CARLO 78 .ONLY ONE HEAD LIGHT ON EACH SIDE,79 HAD TWO ON EACH SIDE.ALSO YOU CAN PUT A 454 IN A 78 .BECAUSE I HAVE A LT1 CORVETTE ENGINE IN MY 78.AND THAT ENGINE IS BIGGER THAN A 454!!!!SO GET A PEN AND A PIECE OF PAPER. AND TAKE NOTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Training Day   (9/17/2003)
You must not know too much about Big Blocks because the 454 cubic inch displacement is much bigger than the 5.8liter(350CID)small block LT1. Unless you have a 502 or 572 your LT1 is smaller than a 454. Training Day   (9/21/2003)
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't an LT1 Corvette plant a 350?!? I don't know where you're from buddy but in America a 454 block is much bigger than a 350. Before you start bullshitting and make an ass out of yourself you should know what you're talking about. Training Day   (4/13/2004)
That's pretty funny that you say the suspension can't hold a 454. I currently have a '79 with a 454 in it. The suspension is just fine. And also i haven't ran across any motor that won't fit under the hood with a little extra work. Training Day   (9/29/2003)
Hey buddy, Chargers are from Dodge. the 454 didn't last until 77 either and when it did go down it was massively underpowered. Also, you can fit a 454 into a 78-80 monte Carlo, because I've seen it done. Training Day   (4/13/2004)
The charger is a mopar and the 454 IS A Chevy motor, it would never be in a charger. Training Day   (5/24/2004)
it could be. not original, but it could be. the original charger (if it was worth anything) would probably be a 440 hemi... if not? eh... you can change that -) Training Day   (5/30/2004)
ur an idiot because a charger is a chrysler product
 Training Day   (8/17/2004)
CHARGERS NEVER HAD 454'S U FOOL
454 IS A CHEVY BIG BLOCK
CHARGERS BELONG TO THE MOPAR FAMILY.
AND MONTE'S FROM 78-80 THE BODY STYLE THAT U WERE REFERING TO NEVER CAME WITH 350'S ANYONE WHO CLAIMS THAT THEIRS IS MODIFIED OR SWAPED
THEIR ENGINE. BUT U WERE RIGHT ABOUT
ONE THING-THE MONTE FROM TRAINING DAY IS A 1979. BUT THE DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN THE 78 AND THE 79
IS THE SIGNAL LIGHTS AND THE FRONT GRILLS- NOT THE TAIL LIGHTS-
I'VE OWNED 1980,1979 AND A 1978
MONTE CARLO- CLOSE BUT NOT QUIET! Training Day   (9/28/2004)
how can you spell m-o-r-o-n any clearer? a CHARGER? DODGE?!? what the hell man...just sit back and chill and let ppl who know what they're talking about do what they do..... Training Day   (10/20/2004)
are you just stupid or what havent you seen the movie even it had 4 head lights in the front witch would make a 1980 and it also had a v6 turbo charged look at the exsaust on the car Training Day   (3/29/2003)
you are a very dum man watch the move agen and you cant tell what motor it has in it from the exsaust I have the same exsaust on my 79 and its a 305
 Training Day   (5/2/2003)
i have a 78' monte on 20's with burgandy candy paint and dual flowmasters it purrs just like the movie Training Day   (5/6/2003)
Sorry man, but you are an idiot. Turbo V6?!? What the hell are you talking about, its a 79 with at least a 305, exhausts tips don't mean shit buddy. Training Day   (4/13/2004)
I'm pretty sure it's a 1076 Monte Carlo Landau because i have one just like it
 Training Day   (8/3/2004)
its a late 1979 MC model, sitting on either dayton/gangster/sinister/player 13 Training Day   (8/6/2004)

they didn't make (SS) back in 78-80!It is not a 78'or 80'. becuase of taillights rap around the car and the angle on side of the car are shave alittle bit different,so it a 79'. Far as the moter is a 350 it bolts right up with mounts in car bay. I have a 78' wiht a 350ci. I done some much research on 78-80 and you don't want to buy one, becuase baerly no one makes/has parts for sale.  Training Day   (3/9/2003)
hey can u give me all the specs to this car cuz i want to copy it exactly Email me at JairobiTheInnovator@yahoo.com Training Day   (5/12/2003)
Its not a 78. your research is wrong. The car in the movie has wrap around tail lights which were not availible on the 78. Training Day   (5/29/2003)
       Training Day   (6/22/2003)
First of all I have Built my 78 monte from the groung up. Its a 78 in the movie lowrider style. 305 under the hood, and to put it to rest,Mexico is the only monte to have a 350. With grand Prix style inteior. Also to all the people who think 78-80 montes came in the SS package.... No such thing Period! any comments feel free to e-mail me

so wat year is the monte carlo in trainig day because i want to get the exact monte to build a lowrider Training Day   (11/1/2004)
I own a 1978 Monte too. Just this past weekend my dad and I put a new 4 barrel intake, 4 barrel carb, new headers, and new duel exahust on it. I also have an appointment for limo tint. The car is beautiful. Its been my dream car for years now. Training Day   (3/14/2003)
well i have a 1979 monte carlo and it is the same one in the movie i've seen it. I even got it exactly done like it painted it black the whole nine yards.  Training Day   (4/24/2003)
Watch the movie closer. The tail lights of the car in the movie are wrap around. the 78 had a break or separate pieces to the entire tail light package. If the car in your driveway has wrap around tail lights then you got hosed, its not a 78. Training Day   (5/29/2003)
ITS A 79 IF YOU LOOK AT THE TAIL LIGHTS  Training Day   (6/1/2003)
its either a 78 or a 79 both years have almost identical bodies....i have both years in my garage ut i wasnt lookin at the car too hard while watchin the movie.but it is for sure a 78 or 79
 Training Day   (6/2/2003)
Where can I get one of those? Training Day   (6/4/2003)
you obviously dont like your monte's that much because i have a 79 and when i see a 78 79 or 80 i know them all apart if anyone needs to know anything about them email me joecollege84@aol.com
 Training Day   (6/11/2003)
ANYONE WHO READS THIS THREAD LISTEN UP! me and my friend watched a special on customized automobiles made for movies. One Of them (or should i say 12) was for TRAINING DAY! thats right everyone 12 REPLICAS were used to shoot the movie! i mean lets be real how many times did they Smash the Car up and shoot it full of holes and the Host stated it was a Customized NineTeen Seventy NINE (thats '79) Chevrolet Monte Carlo with HYDRUALICS! (NOT BAGS!) so everyone talkin 78 and 80 yall can stop now and have a nice day...Peace PS if anyone would like to see MY '79 email me JoeCollege84@aol.com  Training Day   (6/11/2003)
    No the car in Training
Day is a 79 MOnte carlo you can tell by the lights in the front bumber you can tell the difference between 78-79-80 only in the front lights. I have had 4 Monte Carlos I know what I am talking about. Training Day   (9/10/2003)
it is a 79' monte carlo the blinker lights are different in a 78 then a 79' Training Day   (5/5/2004)
I have seen this movie and to be exact it is a 1979 monte carlo coupe. I would say it is dificult to come across one in good condition these days but if you are looking for one like i am their are plenty out their. I sujest to take your time and pick the right one. Peace................G Training Day   (2/1/2003)
It's definitely a 79. I have one that I'm rebuilding myself. Yes, they are hard to find in good condition, and body parts (especially fenders) are very rare.

'79 Monte Landau, 3.23 posi, 383, 700r4 trans. <- just a few mods there.

 Training Day   (3/11/2003)
NOPE... The monte carlo in the movie is an 1980. If you look at the third generation of monte carols, which is from 78-80. The 78 and 79 have headlights that are at an angle, the 1980 had more of a flat front just like the one in the movie... If noone believes me then do the research... Training Day   (3/12/2003)
The 80 Monte has a different headlight set-up.

The only way to properly tell is by checking the front fenders. If either fender has a marker light on it, it's an 80. If it's just a reflector, or there's no marker at all, it's a 78-79.

I can't find a proper side view pic of the car to tell for sure.
 Training Day   (3/12/2003)
NOPE it is a 1979 monte carlo because the front lights go on an angle tothe side of the car the 1980 monte had 2 square headlights and the body was more narrow and in the back of a 1980 monte the running lights went up and down the 1979 taillights went all the way onto the trunk it was just like a rectangle so u do the research bud! Training Day   (3/13/2003)
yes its definately a 79, it has the wrap around tail lights and the front markers are different, i actually own 2 of them, parts arent too hard to find, i mean besides the chrome bumper strips that people want and arm and a leg for, and probly the fron marker lights, but definately not impossible with a lil work Training Day   (3/14/2003)
Where do you find the Chrom bumper strips?!??!? ive searched almost all of south florida....can you help me!? email JoeCollege84@aol.com Training Day   (3/18/2003)
I going to fabricate my own then have them plated chrome Training Day   (4/13/2003)

Can you share some of your soucrces where you get Monte Carlo Parts?
Thanx Training Day   (4/3/2003)
              JUNK YARD OF COURSE
 Training Day   (5/16/2004)
you have 2? would you mind getting rid of one? Training Day   (9/29/2003)
NOPE!!! wrong again, in the 1979 monte, the front came to a point, it has a sharper and more angled look to it, in the movie the monte has a flat grill to it, plus if you didnt know there were to body types in 1980, with 2 different rear tail lights. 1 had the wrap around your talking about and another had a  Training Day   (3/17/2003)
Look at how many headlights are on the Monte Carlo in the movie. There are only two. An 1980 has four head lights...I know because I have one. Unless they took it extra two out (which I can't see them doing) I would have to say that it isn't an 1980. It is an 1978-79. I would suggest that you do more research). Training Day   (5/20/2003)
youre wrong, its a 78 monte, the 80 monte has double headlights on both sides, the one in the movie doesnt. I have an 80, i know. Training Day   (5/26/2003)
the training day monte is a garuntee '78 monte i know this for a fact cause i have a '78 also and its i dentical to the singale head light, and the signal light is a split lens other then that 78-79 are exact same. Training Day   (5/26/2003)
the training day car is a 79 monte, and there wasn't an ss pkg offered in 3rd gen's...the most obvious things about the 79's are the different crome around the bottom, the 78's have crome about 4 Training Day   (8/17/2003)
I have a 1978 t-top and 79 monte carlo (Landau). The 79 vinyl top starts near the front of the car and stop 3/4 of the way on the roof. It does not go down either side, it's factory 2nd owner car. The t-top has a vinyl cover over the sides and meets up to where the t-tops meet.    Training Day   (8/20/2003)

Im am very interested in your Monte Carlos for sale if you could email at Sameolgmd23@aol.com and send some pictures and information on how to contact you Training Day   (7/8/2004)
Its a 1978 Chevy Monte Carlo with some modifications: it has Dayton wire wheels with bullet caps a Grant steering wheel Flowmaster exhaust and hydraulics. Also the car is outfitted with a sunroof, which that era's Monte Carlos never had.
 Training Day   (9/4/2004)
Has anyone considered that it could be a 78', 79' and 80' since they all have the same body and more than one car was used in the making of the movie? Its more than likely that they could have picked up different years since they crash and shoot up the car in the movie. Regardless, this bickering is useless. We know what the car is and when it was made. Options on the car are irrelevant. Good Day Training Day   (4/18/2004)
Hi all! I'm very sorry to butt in, but I don't know who else to ask. I'm trying to find out the name of the song that is playing when Denzel and Ethan first get into the Monte Carlo. I've checked out the soundtrack clips, and I still don't hear it. It sounds kind-of latin, and maybe a keyboard set to sound kind-of like bells. So, can anybody help me? If so, please email me at carenp1@yahoo.com. I REALLY want that song! Thanks!
